Caterpillar and Pon Power both recognize the substantial potential available to the maritime sector for increasing its operational efficiency by generating and utilizing Big Data; connecting relevant, real time data has the future. With effect from September 1st, 2016, the Dutch company Pon Power is privileged to be the first Caterpillar Power dealer worldwide to offer customers the new remote monitoring system: Cat Product Link. EMServices, linked to the hardware, provides insight into the condition of the engine.
The important edge, which EMServices has over existing systems, is that it links and interacts the data obtained from the engine, the oil and the inspection reports. In practical terms, EMServices provides customers with a tool to better plan maintenance service, minimizing the risk of down time. Cat’s longstanding experience of online monitoring in other sectors- think of the mining industry- has yielded a wealth of expertise which has now culminated in a product that’s especially designed for the maritime industry. EMServices is still a retro fit system at this stage, however it is anticipated that Cat Product Link will soon be a standard feature in every engine leaving the factory.
Caterpillar strategy: Cat Connect
The launch of Cat Product Link and the appertaining EMService is part of Cat Connect; Caterpillar’s strategy of specializing in technologies and services that make it possible to remote-monitor the condition of an engine to a high level of accuracy. EMServices is the first Cat Connect service especially designed for maritime environments, and Cat Product Link is the hardware that runs the system. In coming years the current technology will be developed apace with the state of technology in the maritime sector.
A Cat Product Link demo will be presented at the Maritime Industry May 24-26th, stand 214.
