Pon Power introduces new Cat® C9.3 ACERT™

Highly advanced heavy-duty engine, compact and low maintenance 21 mar 2016

With the introduction of the advanced Cat® C9.3 ACERT™ Pon Power has increased its range of user-friendly, low-maintenance engines. The new Cat® C9.3 ACERT™ can be deployed as heavy-duty propulsion engine in marine applications or as power generator set in both commercial and pleasure craft applications.

The Cat® C9.3 ACERT™ is a 6-cylinder, 9,3 liter engine modeled on the existing exceptionally reliable Cat platform, well known for its high power density. Jochem Neuteboom, Commercial Director Marine at Pon Power, explains: ‘Like the C7.1, C8.7 and C12.9, this new Cat engine is extremely compact and low-maintenance. The engine is designed to reduce maintenance so as to achieve lowest possible operational cost. Thanks to the electronic control system, the C 9.3 has a high torque at low speeds and lower fuel consumption at higher speeds."

Customer input has been instrumental in developing the C9.3. Notes Neuteboom: “On the basis of feedback from customers, Caterpillar has put a great deal of thought in maximizing combustion efficiency over a wide operating range. The existing HUI fuel system was replaced by the latest generation common-rail system, which ensures optimum combustion with a lower fuel consumption, less noise and lower emissions.” And, customer feedback was also translated into a series of optional applications to extend the deployment range of the Cat 9.3 including the C1 certification that allows the engine to be used to power deck cranes and winches. Moreover, its exceptionally compact build makes the C9.3 an excellent power source for usage in catamarans, ferries and patrol craft.

The Cat 9.3 bears the EPA Tier 3, EU/CCNR Stage II and IMOII certifications. Depending on the various applications, the following specifications apply:

Propulsion:

375 HP (280bkW) @ 1800 rpm

416b HP (310bkW) @ 2100 rpm

476b HP (355bkW) @ 2300 rpm

Auxiliary:

369 HP & 436 HP (275 bkW- 325 bkW) @ 1800 rpm

292 HP & 362 HP (218bkW- 270 bkW) @ 1500 rpm

Generator set:

224ekW- 300ekW @ 60Hz

185ekW- 250ekW @ 50Hz
