The owners of the largest motoryacht built to date by Hakvoort Shipyards have taken delivery of the 61-metre Just J’s. Created for highly involved clients, Just Js is a triumph of spirited vision, ingenious design and cutting-edge technology.
At 61 metres, Just J’s represents a quantum leap over the yard’s previous record (set by the 50-metre Lady Marina in 1994). This is a direct fruit of Hakvoort’s expansion of its main shed in Monnickendam to 65 metres in 2012 and the next yacht to be launched by Hakvoort will be even longer. Incorporating a string of smart solutions, Just J’s five-deck layout gives her a comparatively high amount of volume and very impressive guest accommodations.
Each of the decks has a theme, and the themes in turn are linked across the yacht. The indoor and outdoor areas are harmonised with each other both in terms of colour references and materials and comfort. The finesse and detailing may vary – the wall panelling in the master suite, for instance, is 100% raw silk, while the hallways are in more durable linen – but all the materials on a given deck belong to the same palette. This reflects a tendency throughout the yacht for coherent, pleasing lines of sight in all directions and an organic connection with the outside world.
Just J’s’ overall theme is contemporary, with a traditional nautical edge to the panelling, trimming and woodwork. This combination of modern and classic was important to the owners, who wished to combine the feel of being on a yacht with the informal atmosphere of a beach residence. Another decisive aspect was the oversized windows and grand views.
The central lift, which links all the decks, was fitted through a technologically advanced solution that involved lifting part of the roof of the yard and lowering the entire length of the elevator down into the vessel’s shaft.
The main deck is the most formal part of the yacht, characterised by deep blue and shimmering silver tones. Four of the guest suites and the VIP stateroom are located on this deck, ensuring an owner’s feel, splendid vistas and direct, easy access to the spacious main salon and dining room. The main deck dining room, which seats 14, has a graceful, airy feel. The guest lobby and corridor – with pantry on the port side – are lovely places in their own right, and even the day head affords beautiful views of the outside.
The entire deck above the main is entirely devoted to the owners. The pièce de résistance is the glass dome above the bed, which lends an unprecedented feel of volume and airiness to the stateroom. Lying in bed, one can see the stars directly above – coupled with almost unlimited seascapes all around, this results in a dramatic three-dimensional feeling of connection to the outside world.
The comfortable owners’ lounge – ideal for a drink and a spot of relaxation – is surrounded on three sides by glass. A similar peaceful ambience is available on the aft deck, with a large circular dining table, bar and BBQ. Other highlights of the owners’ deck are a delightful study and a charming, private outdoor corner forward with a breakfast nook flanked by a whirlpool bath.
Just J’s was designed very much as a family-friendly yacht, and the sky lounge reflects this through a wealth of wide, comfy couches. This cosy ambiance extends to the informal furniture outdoors. The bridge deck also features a comfortable cinema room and generous aft outdoor zone for alfresco entertaining, with two round tables and a wealth of settees and sun loungers. The colour scheme here is in aqua and more vivid green-blue tones, requested specifically by the owners, who wanted this to be an open, inviting spot. The bridge deck is also the location of the captain’s cabin and the wheelhouse, which – unusually high due to being situated above three other decks – has outstanding wing stations to make the captain’s job easier.
The sundeck continues the relaxing blue-green colour scheme of the bridge deck, as reflected among others in the custom-made tiling of the whirlpool bath. The centrepiece here is the spectacular 3 x 2-metre pool forward with a contraflow system, decorated in gorgeous mosaics in a Caribbean style.
Just J’s has superlative quarters for up to 16 crew members in eight cabins. The practicality and convenience of the crew facilities and routing were all a non-negotiable factor for the owners, who have a special bond with their crew. The galley and crew mess being separated from the crew cabins, for instance, enables rest and comfort. The lower deck also comprises two additional guest cabins, a spacious lazarette containing a gym as well as the tender and four Jetskis, which are launched from large gullwing doors on either side.
Just J’s’ exterior combines Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design flair with extraordinary Hakvoort workmanship. Her most striking characteristics are the massive windows, especially in the guest cabins on the main deck forward and the lines of the hull – thanks to her elongated silhouette, partially closed foredeck and balance between the superstructure and the hull, she looks substantially longer than her 61 metres on the water. To top it all off, Just J’s has a max speed of 15.5 knots, a cruising speed of 13 and a range of some 4,000 nautical miles.
