Exploring Holland in Style

25 mei 2016

The owners of the Moonen 97 Nimbus had a fine time over the past week touring the waters of Holland in their newly refitted yacht. Getting things ready to make this happen a month in advance of the scheduled completion date has once again showcased the impressive flexibility of the Moonen yard.

As the captain of Nimbus Christophe Junca explained in an earlier Moonen Journal, this refit has been an extensive project involving most of the interior and much more besides. Although the yacht was actually in good condition when the new owners took her over, they wanted to make sure that Nimbus reflected both their personal style and their plans to cruise extensively on both sides of the Atlantic.

Made to measure
“The owners were delighted when they initially bought the boat in cooperation with Moonen Brokerage and Fraser Yachts,” says Jan Tielemans, project manager for this refit at Moonen. When we also introduced them to Christophe as their captain, a great team was in place to refit the boat to the owners’ specific requirements for a yacht.

“Having worked on two previous projects at Moonen, Christophe recommended bringing Nimbus to Holland and once the owners had seen the quality of the work, they increased the activities even further. We have brought the yacht completely up-to-date in areas such as the navigation system, electrical installations, noise and vibration, power management and Wi-Fi. Nimbus has also been given a new livery and we designed a bespoke bimini to offer additional shade on the aft deck. When relaunched she will be completely up-to-date in every respect.”

Tulips from the water
A few weeks ago, the owners asked if their yacht would be sufficiently ready for them to fly over to the Netherlands in the first week of May and take her out on a trip to view the amazing colours of the tulip-filled Dutch landscape at this time of year.

“The final completion date is actually at the end of this month,” says Jan. “To make something like this happen you need flexible personnel and a crew that enjoys making sure that the owners enjoy their time on board. Perhaps the third part of any successful trip is the weather – and the fact that Holland was the warmest country in Europe during this week, outstripping even the South of France, was certainly a bonus.”

Quality and comfort
Jan says that Nimbus will always have a special place in his heart because the boat was launched as a Moonen showpiece in 2011 and operated by the yard for the first few months before the first owner snapped her up. “We had already done some work for this first owner during a previous minor refit and it was great to welcome her back home again to the yard. The second owners clearly appreciate the quality and comfort that Nimbus offers and we’re now going to complete the final parts of the refit to ensure they enjoy her to the max for years to come.”

The owners are very pleased with what they have seen and we hope to be able to share some of their experiences with you at a later date after they have spent more time on board. The Moonen team would like to thank the owners for a successful refit and wish them an enjoyable experience on their Nimbus.
